I was hoping a 1911 would be a cure to the addiction of AK building, starting to think I am just trading one addiction for another!

I don't think one 1911 will cure your addiction for AK's, you better take three and call me in the morning LOL

Here is my frame and slide. Both are from Essex. I acquired them about 10 years ago. Yes I know, I am slow!

Here are the parts that I have. Over the ten years I have lost some.

I fitted the slide but it is still a little tight. I colored it up with some markup fluid to attempt to find where it is tight.

Since I probably will never find my misplaced parts I will start a list and order up replacements.

I have not had a chance to make the list yet. Been chatting with a few people.

I mentioned your name to smoker, he was looking for a 1911 kit and I thought you might know a source.

This has been a great week. Work has sucked but I attended BP3 last weekend which was a two day event. Unpacked Monday, bent welded a Cetme flat on Tuesday, bent welded a Cetme flat on Wednesday, finished unpacking today, started messing with the 1911. I wonder what I will working on tomorrow. Yes it has been a good week!

Definitely Needed:
Front & Rear Sights
Firing Pin
Firing Pin Stop Plate (I recommend the EGW Oversize one, and fit it to the slide/extractor channel)
Recoil Spring Plug
Recoil Spring (16# or 17# - I recommend Wolff - Comes w/ Firing Pin Spring)
Slide Stop
Hammer Pin
Sear Pin
Thumb Safety
Slide Stop Plunger
Safety Lock Plunger (I think I see you have this already)
Plunger Spring

MAYBE Needed:
Did you LOSE A PART since the Build Party?    I recall at the Build Party you had BOTH the sear & Disconnector, but now I only see a disconnector...  Are you missing the Sear?

- Sear Spring: Yours was bent a little off, but it's still possible to tweak it & make it work...

- Ejector & Pin: Your ejector was pretty loose, and you may need to install one a little tighter...

That should be pretty much all the parts you're likely to need.

You might want to put a little Markup Fluid on two other surfaces:  The slide shows a slightly dark spot further forward on the rails where you didn't put much (or any) markup fluid near where the recoil spring rides through the slide.  Also, on the top of the frame, where the recoil spring sits (some people call it the top of the 'dust cover').  Basically the two spots marked Red in the picture:

I probably did lose it. After I order new parts I am sure I will locate the missing ones. If nothing else I will have a head start on my second build.

I am just ready for Ghilly to say I need pearl handles

Check with Sarco for missing parts, they have a large assortment at low prices..Just as long as you don't need a main spring housing... I'm still waiting since 1-18 for three of mine that they shorted me on three complete kits

This thread has got me thinking that I need a plain Government Model to join my Gold Cup and Lightweight Commander.

The latest Shotgun News has an article about building 1911s from kits. They used one from Numrich. I see that SARCO also has kits. Searching some of the Internet sites had not much good to say about these kits. Anyone have any experience with them?

Gunbroker has a nice looking real WW2 Ithaca which would be a great addition to my mil-surplus connection but the bid is over $1100 with almost two days to go.

I'd suggest you run like hell from the SARCO 1911 kits.  They're in pretty bad shape.

Two of the guys who went to the Wisconsin Build Party #3 picked up some pretty decent kits from DIY Guns, and their GI style kit seemed pretty decent.  We got one kit to fire at the build party, and it got me SERIOUSLY thinking of building a 1911 with one of those kits.

Edited to add:  I just picked up a new Smith & Wesson last night (only because it was so good of a steal), so it'll be a while before my wife will let me buy another gun.

Thanks for the suggestion. It agrees with what I found on the Internet. Generally I have been happy with the parts I have ordered from SARCO. I'll order the kit from DIYGUNS.

Do you know what frame the guys were using?
