sub guns are so simple though, you dont even need an expedient alternative for them.. its little more than a steel bar inside a steel tube with a barrel on one end and a trigger

Agreed.  Which is why FDR baned them - or we'd be discussing how many of x brand 9x19mm hollowpoints is sufficient for deer, lol.

The problem, as I see it, is the cost of building a semi-auto legal clone of an inexpensive submachine gun very nearly brings one to the $300 cost of a cheap AR build - at that point, the AR is more effective for the cost.

I don't really see how you can get home-built semi-auto handguns under the cost of a HiPoint 9x19mm, or the cost of a home-built pump shotgun under the cost of one of the Chinese/Turkish pumps or the Mossberg Maverick 88.

Agreed, which is why we need blueprints on the shelf, and tested models.  We've already got 80% Glocks & SIG 320s that folks are building, and numerous routes to building semi-auto centerfire rifles - ARs, AKs, STENs, etc.

I don't that we're that far away from a charitable organization that arms and trains folks that don't have guns - would drastically reduce the burglar population.

as you say we already have 80% glocks, sigs, ARs, AKs, etc.. so.. if wanting to prevent gun control from ever being effective, we should work on a plan B for if 80%s ever became unavailable.. things like that iron glock for example

i think ive finally come up with a workable idea for a sheet metal pistol too that ive been working on recently

what do you guys believe the most important type of weapon for everyone to have is?.. a rifle, or a pistol?

Everything that can use Glock magazine because Glock is everywhere on this planet so in case of emergency you 're sure to gain many magazine if sh*t it  the fan

What you should have without ads :
A silenced 22Lr pistol high capacity - close encounter
A 9mm pistol with or without suppressor high capacity -close and middle range encounter
A semi automatic rifle in 300 win magnum with suppressor large range to clean Deltas

Long before the Glock 19 was the universal service pistol, the Browning HiPower, Tokarev, and Makarov filled that role.  Those magazines are still out there.

A .300 Winchester Magnum rifle is expensive to feed, and is not very common.  I would suggest something in 7.62x39mm, 5.45x39mm, or 5.56x39mm, using AK or AR magazines.

a .300 win mag is one of the guns that if it ever makes it on my "to buy" list it'll be near the very bottom.  i cannot think of any application in my area or any of the places i am considering moving to where a 300 win mag is going to be beneficial to me

A Roni should also do the trick in middle range and more.

My SUB-2000 is the backup to my 23.  Got my Poly 80 today, will build a 26 on it, then will back it up w/ a Gen 2 2000.

Roni and the like are interesting - unfortunately the way they originally sold in the US was as a Federal felony in a box.  Happily now they come w/ arm braces, and the Austrian 16" bbl is now available here in the States.

generally speaking once you start getting into 9mm and up, the weight of a straight blowback carbine just goes up exponentially.. when you look at them they really arent much lighter than, and in some cases are way heavier than an AR-15

imagine how much lighter and softer shooting a 9mm carbine could be if you had a telescoping bolt with a steyr GB gas tube in the front of it
