As many of you know, there was a rather unique shotgun build at the Shot Show 201.
It was a rather cool idea, and I would LOVE to replicate the build or build idea.
I'll post detailed information when I find it again, along with the video. But Generally what the guy did is he took a semi-auto shotgun with a steel Receiver so he could weld on it. he removed the trigger group and welded over it to perfectly hide it, he then turned it upside down ! and he took an MG3/M53/MG42 grip and gutted it, and then installed a hammer fired fire control group (FCG) which could be an AR15 for 922r and installed it into the grip, so it worked perfectly.
note: one manufacture has removed the selector on one FCG model and substituted it with an old cross bolt safety for an AR15, so you have even more project options. so he then cut a hole for the grip in the "top" of the old shotgun THE NEW BOTTOM. and fit that in place and welded some ears on the receiver right where the back of the grip fits into place with a bolt of sorts.
He then took an ace aluminum stock, and removed the upper aluminum bar and replaced it with a steel tube so it could be welded to the receiver and the bottom part of the stock slid into place and pined or screw added. now remember, the tube that holds the shells is now on top, and he placed a piece of pipe in place and welded it into place, and then welded a front sight to the end of the shell holder tube, and added a rear sight, again welding it in place.
Now some important features: 1. the stock is nearly inline with the barrel which is important for control of the weapon because you have little muzzle rise this way. 2. The Barrel is not on top. the shell tube is on top and the barrel is below that. placing the barrel more inline with the shoulder, which should provide you with even more control and little to no muzzle rise. 3. now most people may find this next feature, very odd.. and that is because you load it from the TOP. now I actually don't mind this. lets say, your being attacked by Zombies, and you fire three rounds, and you have three rounds in your hand, all you need to do is (very comfortably, tilt the shotgun to the left (for right handed shooters), and just easily slide them in.) loading from the bottom requires a little contorting that's not always easy. but from the top, you have more control and far more vision.
[ personal modification ] if it were my shotgun, I would make a mod to the shell tube: first of all, I would add a rail to the top for a mini Aim-point. And on the side of the shell tube (left) I would cut a slot and then simply take some of the roll-able clear plastic and put it into the tube. its thickness should not interfere with the shells what so ever. so now you simply tilt the shotgun to the right, and you now can easily see how many shells you have remaining.
It would also be possible to drill holes where each shell sits when fully loaded, and place an led in each window and dim them enough, so, you can press a momentary on switch using your trigger finger right where you would find the mag release on an M16/AR15. you would see what looked like an AR mag release button that's been hollowed out and had a hole in the middle, so you can reach the light button, but it would be very hard to accidentally press it. so you could see your ammo status day and night.
what do you think of the shotgun project description?
Has anyone seen this shotgun in person? and especially seen it shoot?

First I heard of it. Sounds interesting.
