Here's the link http://science.dodlive.mil/2014/07/24/darpa-makes-guided-tar get-bullets/

I believe they are using a .50BMG, so if this is correct even if you're hiding around the corner they;re gonna fug you up good an' proper!!!!

For some reason it isn't posting the link in a usable manner, so you maight have to cut it and paste it into the address bar. I am not that good with these new fangled computer thingymebobs generally if I can't whack it, wiggle it, or weld it, I'm up 5h1t creek minus a paddle.

It looks like it still traveling on a ballistic trajectory, and the adjustments seem to be, just to compensate for slight errors & variables.

I don't think traveling around a corner is on the cards just yet.

As to get a projectile to fly around a corner, requires a means of propulsion in the projectile.

Flying around a corner, be a ballistic trajectory, will slow the bullet down so much it will just drop out of the air, or tumble away in the original trajectory.

Myself, I would be more interested in the OICW grenade system...

The South Koreans have already fielded it, OC, as a bolt action, w/ a Daewoo 5.56x45mm action underneath.

If that proectile were to be built for steering, even a few feet difference, the 20 mm grernade would be a much more versatile payload than a .50 caliber slug.

Oh, the 20mm grenade is already a more versatile payload than a slug - it solves the defilade problem. The Korean round, like the US experimental one, is set to explode @ a particular distance while in the chamber. The distance is calculated by an integrated laser rangefinder on the grenade launcher. Quite a force multiplier for the infantry squad.

At the moment the steering bullet is only of use to a stationary target, I doubt it can hit a moving target yet.

But at the end of the day it's technology trying to remove the human factor.
What you don't see is the equipment needed to guide the bullet, just more weight for the soldier/marine to carry.

Oh, but it's ok technology can help there too, it's called Exoskeletons.
The best thing since sliced bread, right up until the battery dies or it gets shot in an actuator or something.

Eventually, it will be no humans will be on the battlefield, except those unfortunate enough not to be able to afford the technology, then they'll have to rely upon fieldcraft, local knowledge and marksmanship.

It's all about applying forces at the right points to change a projectile's motion. Newton still rules the day here. Wind and gravity currently provide the major forces which alter a projectile's flight. How man intends to apply external force to a bullet after it leaves the muzzle is a real mystery to me. I know it can be done with laser guided artillery rounds, but small arms bullets?

It's called piezo electric actuators.
The same ones that make you camera lens focus.
The guidance system is built on a single chip, and the drive on another chip.
The piezo actuators work flaps in the same way as the laser guided artillery shells work.

I can't say for sure that is 'how' they've done it, but it's how I'd do it.

Just like North said about the batteries. High tech isn't very good with out a power supply.
As for only the poor bugger will have to put boots on the ground, never underestimate the Afghan from the dark ages with sticks and rocks. Didn't they take out Hinds by rolling boulders off of mountainsides?
