I'd be willing to trade for a jig too...I have a pre 1899 antique H&R double action "police" top break in 38 s&w That is in working condition except the hand spring which should be fixed soon. I also have other stuff too. I could trade.

Where in NY?
What tools do you have available?

If you had access to a machine I could give you pointers to finish it without a jig.

Nah. Easy peasy.
I just read an article recently... I'll see if I can't dig it up again.

Cool, thanks. This should be a good help. The more Ive been thinking about it and looking at the machinist drawings the more I think I may just lay it out and do it without a jig. This template will help with the part I was most worried about...the hole locations. Though a jig would give me pics of mind...I know I'm more than capable of doing this without one.

If Emily can do it then so can you!

I can't find that write up.

I've seen various degrees of 80%'s. How much 80% is done on yours?

Get to a mill, those 'er in a vise (not too tight that you squish the trigger guard), indicate the surface where the pins go flat and pop three holes in it.
Rotate 90 degrees, indicate the mating surface, hold near the grip and go to town on the trigger well.

Mine is pretty well done. Its got the small pocket where the rear takedown pin is already milled out...buffer tube hole is threaded...all thats left is fcg pocket, hammer pin, trigger pin and safety holes...then the trigger hole

I can't believe there isn't a good write up for finishing these without a jig.
I mean, I get it if you have the machine-less jig where you just use a pistol drill but these things are easy-peasy.

It almost gives me the push I need to do a write up, for the community.

Doesn't really matter...the 15th if I wanna register it....or I can build a state compliant AR instead... I'm thinking of going that route anyway

I was thinking about just using a "sticker jig" as a guide there made out of vinyl...that way all I have to worry about it's my depth. They index off the rear take down pin and the bolt catch slot for milling the fcg. It only cost $5.00 figure its worth a shot

The measurements are critical - however, JB Weld fixes many ills.  If you have to redrill the holes or they end up egg shaped, there are several fixes, from JB Weld, to the KNS retaining pin gadget, to drop in trigger packs starting around $200.

Thats what I was thinking, if I messed up the trigger and hammer pin hole locations I could oversize/redrill and use kns "non walking" pin fixtures and fix with some sort of epoxy. Well ive decided I'm just going to try without a jig soon as I get a little spare time. Which for me at this very moment is a scarce commodity. I'll keep everyone updated!
