Not bad as in awful, but bad as in Battle Arms Development (BAD) Inc. and you will be hearing a lot from this company in the future due to several new products.  The BAD-T1 (which is a must have tool for M14, M1A, and M1 Garand owners), The BAD-ASS (you will see this in our next review), and in this review the BAD-T3.

The BAD-T3 is a five (5) function, double-ended Gas Cylinder Lock Wrench for the M14 / M1A and the M1 Garand Rifles, and it really is a great tool to have for the M14 / M1A and M1 Garand shooter and enthusiast.

The tool was designed to compliment the BAD-T1 which does EVERYTHING for this series of rifles, and while the process is basically the same, as is the problem with the M14, M1A, and the Garand, we will only be using the Garand in this example (If I had an M14, the example would be for an M14).

In 1936 the United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 (aka M1 Garand) became the standard service rifle of the United States Armed Forces. The rifle lasted through WWII and through Korea, but in 1957 it was replaced but the M14 rifle. The M14 rifle could be considered a Super Garand, becaue it's really just an updated Garand, which was produced in large numbers until 1966.

The design is so sound that it's still being called back into service on the current battlefields 74 years after becoming our standard Rifle.

The problem is these rifles can at times be hard to unscrew the gas plug for cleaning.  This can be caused be a number of reasons, but especially from shooting dirty ammunition such as Wolf, or from firing a lot of blanks for war reenactments.

If this is the case, then the gas plug can be a bear to remove for cleaning, and thats what the BAD-T3 was designed for.  It serves as the "third hand" during gas system assembly/disassembly, as well as a holder for the gas plug so it does not get misplaced if you are cleaning your rifle in the field or at the range. The tool also acts as a Gas Piston Holder to be used used in conjunction with a gas piston carbon removal drill bit tool.

The tool is easy to use as added leverage for removing the gas plug.  It just slips on as shown.

As you can see the tool is a perfect fit for even the M1 Garand

keep in mind this one tool works for the M14, M1A, and the Garand. You just use the other side of the wrench.

and as you can see the tool is well marked. The tool itself is made of Aircraft Grade 7075-T6 Aluminum, which has been Hard Coat Anodized in OD Green.

The tool Dimensions are 5.8" L x 1.5" W x 3/8" H, with a weight of 3.5 oz.

And if you have not guessed yet, it's MADE IN THE USA

They also make a BAD-T4 version, which is also a five (5) function, double-ended wrench. On one end, it is a Gas Cylinder Lock Wrench for the M14 / M1A Rifles and on the other end, it is a wrench for the SEI Gas Lock Front Sight. (the BAD-T4 is not for the M1 Garand).

The tool really is self explanatory, and I found it to be well made, as well as useful.

You can watch two videos that show the BAD-T1, as well as the BAD-T3 in action here:

Video two

and you can also download the manual in PDF format.

1. M14/M1A Gas Cylinder Lock Wrench
2. M1 Garand Gas Cylinder Lock Wrench
3. M14/M1A Gas Piston Holder
4. M14/M1A Gas Plug Holder
5. M1 Garand Gas Plug Holder

1. M14/M1A Gas Cylinder Lock Wrench
2. SEI Gas Lock Front Sight Wrench
3. M14/M1A Gas Piston Holder
4. M14/M1A Gas Plug Holder 1
5. M14/M1A Gas Plug Holder 2

The tool does just what it's designed to do and it makes the removal of the gas plug much easier.

You can get more information and purchase the BAD-T3 and BAD-T4 directly from the Battle Arms Development website.
