Made by EOD Robotics, Inc, and originally designed to handle detonation of IED’s and trip wires, it’s used by EOD, as well as front line troops for all kinds of tasks. Stowed Size is 1" x 5.5" with a weight of 5 OZ.
The Body Is Made of T6061 Aluminum and the spikes are made of 300 Series Stainless steel, so it’s built to last a long time. When collapsed the spikes are stored inside the water proof compartment in the tool body, but you can remove the spikes and use it as a small survival case.
When setting up you have the choice of using from 1 to 3 hooks, or no hooks at all. With no hooks you can fill the body with sand for added weight and use it to throw wires.
The 1"x5.5" water resistant shell holds the hook's spikes when you're on the move, and can be filled with water or sand to add weight for more accurate throws. Forget all that "not certified for life support" stuff — they've been tested at more than 350 lbs., which should be enough to hold all but the biggest of crime-fighters.
The company states: These hooks are NOT certified for life support activities and should not used in that manner. But the hook has been tested to 350 lbs.
Use it as a specialized grappling hook to remotely capture lines, tear down phone lines, reposition barbed wire emplacements, disrupt wires, move packages and bags, rake and break windows, tear down blinds/curtains in SWAT entry applications, it's also used by military RTOs (Radio Telephone Operators) to string field expedient HF antennas.
Now for non-military applications. These work well to drag at piers to pull up tackle boxes, fishing poles, and gear. You can use these to string a SW radio antenna really fast, they also work well to get the neighbors cat out of your tree
if you have limbs on your roof from a storm you can use it to pull them down (just watch out for the sharp spikes). you can use it to cast a line to the roof, or to drop down from the roof to grab something dropped or forgotten. It's basically for all the things you cannot think about.
