Guys,
The name says it all!
The last gunshow I went to, I snagged a Roggio out the door, for $105. The dealer told me it was machined out of a billet/ chunk of AL. But if you have visited the Roggio website, it CLEARLY says its made out of a forging.
Anyways... here is what the receiver looks like:
Probably the most negative feature... is the "cal- multi" designation. I would rather have nothing than that! But it makes sense for marketing... in theory you can chamber a lower with a lot of different cals...
Graphics were sharp and clear...
The finish was real nice on this receiver! Nice and deep with no finish issues...
As far as "bag marks" and coarse machining, I have alot less on this one... than on my Olympic (from the Clinton Ban era). Where the Oly wasn't cleaned up well or contoured, the Roggio has been smoothed. Only "bag marks" are here:
As you can see, I am mostly "nit- picking" on this cheap receiver! As mentioned, the Oly has FAR worse...
They mentioned "advance" features on the website.. here is a good example on the front of the magwell:
Not being a "svelt" operator, I have never used this feature... but it is a nice touch. If you are a purist, this probably wouldn't please ya!
The magwell opening is real well done (in my opinion):
So far I have strapped on a cheap 4 position stock from Copes that I bought 2 years ago... The FCG hasn't arrived yet, so I can't comment on the holes. I was thinking about a 16in barrel, but with my flat land... and lack of city zombies, don't mind a 20in barrel. I have a few uppers with carry handles (purchased for $25.00), but would like to stick with a flat top.
I am excited to assemble this rifle! I have looked on various websites and have seen the Roggio listed for $110- $170.00. I don't know what the typical price is, but the cheap gunshow price attracted me. Most other brands at the show were running $130ish.

Guys,
Continued cheapness.... Here is a photo of my almost complete upper that I scored a few years ago.
I added an ejection port cover, and barrel extension. I have yet to get the sights or forward assist.
Based on the fact that I have 3 of these "2nd receivers" that I got for next to nothing... I should build them up. Sooo... this rifle will probably become an M4 clone.
Anyways.... I believe I got it for $25.00! It is purple, and has a "defect" in the carry handle region... I don't know the maker, any help with the cartouche?
Note the burr in the next picture? It is an actual slice and not a crack... can't figure how they did it!
The dealer (or AR builder) that I got this from, claimed that it was a "2nd" receiver. He claimed that during the heat treat, sometimes the AL/ coating would go purple on them. Nobody wanted it... So I got the deal.
Last photo is of my cheap charging handle. I need to clarify, but I think I got it for either $3.00 or $7.00. It needs the latch, but I figure that I wanted a "large" handle on it... and can fab it up!
So here we go... building an AR on a budget! While some may disagree on the pedigree of this AR... some of use don't have majore $$ so can't get a Colt or other "significant" manufacturer!
Anyone have a line on cheap barrels?

Ok,
Another night of fun. As everyone knows, AR's are usually "assembly" only. They are pretty easy builds!
I opted for something more than mil-spec when it came to the FCG. I got the Timberwolf Tactical Stainless Steel Single Stage lower kit. I figure that as I go along with the M4 carbine theme, I will just add some custom tricks to keep it interesting... Here is the SS kit:
I have a 16in barrel on order... along with an Upper receiver kit...

I like the timney trigger I have on my grendel, then rest of mine are stock. the oldest stock trigger is very smooth, but then again it's been worn in.
I have a 14.5 inch barrel for my next AR build. now I don't have the funds for the rest... lol

Ok... I got more parts in for this build... and I scrounged up some of the "dcorb special" handguards.. I think I have some tan or grey ones... I fit the "blue" on just to make the rifle look complete "if somewhat clownish"...
I ordered 2 barrels. The first was a 16in midlength Beaver Creek. I purchased it from Brownells... it is listed as a Heavy Barrel 1x9 twist. Real sweet barrel... and then I visited Del-Ton Arms. For a bit more, I ordered a "barrel assembly".... and frankly, this is the way to go. (same barrel specs) The Del Ton Arms barrel had the barrel extension, barrel nut, and front sight mount and gas block already mounted... pretty much slap that puppy on and go! Here is a comparison...
The Beaver is mounted to another $25.00 A2 upper, same profile. As you can see, the Beaver is stripped, and the Del-Ton is complete (except for the added muzzle break which was added for $5.00). I will dig out a receipt to demo the cost of the two...
The Del-Ton has real nice barrel markings. Unfortunately the barrel didn't show up well in my photos...
The Beaver barely has a read- able markings... not worth taking a photo...
Some additional photos of the "barrel assembly" from Delon:
The Delton barrel was NOT listed as M4 feed ramp... perhaps someone can direct me on how to check?
I ordered the wrong gas tube () so the rifle isn't finished yet...
Oh, while i was at Del-Ton, I also ordered a bolt for the rifle..
It had a real odd "coarse" finish on it... very much unlike my FN bolt that I got from Model 1 (?) back in the 1990's. The bolt head is marked MP... And yes, this was the "least expensive" bolt Delton offered...
I think it counts as a staked screw bolts... but I think that I better make sure they are not going to back out before shooting!
After a couple cycles in the gun, you can see where the finish is being removed...
Overall I am happy with the bolt...
And now, something to make you guys laugh!!
Left to do, is proper torque on the barrel nut... insert gas tube... fix rear A2 sight, put on forward assist... and the trigger guard is on order. And probably last will be a nice paint job to match everything together... Anyone with a recommendation on something (paint) that will stick to my "cool" handguards?
One area of concern, is that the hammer pin seems to want to wander. I haven't encountered this before... but I think that this is actually a common occurence. I didn't get my pin gage set out, so I don't know if it is the pin (Wolf Tactical FCG in SS) or the hole made by Roggio.
So far it is a VERY light and handy carbine...

Is your spring locking the pin in place as it should?

Boss,
I think the wandering pin is taken care of....
Now where was I? As you can see from previous photos... I stuck with the dcorb blue handguards. However, I figured that I would mod this AR a bit more (it has the MOE trigger guard). I liked the ideas of rails (within reason) and figured that I would add some... and then another grip... 'cause who wants to hang onto the rails?
I did add the AIM sports ambi. single point sling plate. I could have stuck with stock... but decided that I needed to try one of THOSE slings... cost was $11.95. Eventually I may use it as a template for making more!
This is where I offend people!
I purchased from Area 51, the AIM M4 two piece quad rail (with rubber covers) for $40.00. These are of course made in China. I also purchased the UTG vert. foregrip with pressure pad inserts for an additional $10.00. Of course these are also made in China. Not buying these ever before, I questioned the price of these... I was either getting: 1. bad quality, 2. foreign manufacture. Guess I got the later, since these seem more than adaquete in the quality dept.
The grip has the removable panels (as can be seen in the photo) and also has a compartment (sealed via o-ring).
The rails are numbered like on expensive units:
Fit and finish is actually quite good for a "discount" unit. I am pleased and happy with what I purchased. It is NOT a free float handguard.
I need to finish the gas system (in the mail and missed delivery today), add forward assist, and the front sight. Perhaps later I will add a matching pistol grip (for my trigger guard) to the rifle. However, I wanted to keep my build inexpensive as possible.
I will sit down and tally the total build cost... but don't expect it to be overly bad. Range report when I get out to shoot next (with some inexpensive Silver Bear ammo)!

I will have a cheap DIY project (the tool is $10.00 from Harbor Freight) that will allow you to mod your AR grips, buttplate, forward grip, and other things that are polymer.
I'm going to start with an old cheap A2 grip to see how it looks, and then I'm going to move to my Tapco T6 SKS stock to enhance that.
The mod is done to a LOT of Glocks and other polymer handguns (I don't have any) but it will work on polymer grip pannels.
I'm just waiting for the tool to show up next week so I can start posting the simple projects for those on a budget.

Boss,
In these times... we ALL need budget builds!
Show what you can... and I will tack it onto the "budget" builds that I am doing with my AR's!

Not to be a spoiler, but is the "tool" also used for connecting electrical components?

it can be, but the tool is sold to work on wood and leather.

lol, ok.... for the upcoming project you will need.
Purpose: Heat Stippling (Blurred had it figured out)
adding texture to polymers is simple and easy, and provides a non-slip surface. the service to have it done normally costs $150, we will be doing it for $10 in the upcoming project.

OK, here is the stock A2 Grip thats been heat stippled.
SUPER easy project, and really adds to the grip, and gets rid of the $7 grip look.
